Katja Herbers is daughters of violinist Vera Beths and oboist Werner Herbers. Her childhood was spent in America along with her mother's tours with chamber music ensemble L'Archibudelli. Her father and mother both remarried, her mother to Cellist Anner bylsma. She was introduced to the theater world.
